| Sy's Project for Peace

Siaw-Yean (Sy) Woon is a 2nd year Veterinary student who has recently been awarded a 2010 Davis Projects for Peace grant (of $US10,000), for her proposal on rabies control. She will be travelling to India in July this year to implement her funded project. This is Sy's story about the prize and her project.

Dogs may prove to be man’s best friend in more ways than one. Far from simply being faithful companions, dogs in their dotage are gaining recognition as an important model for human ageing. In particular, Canine Cognitive Dysfunction (CCD) or “doggy dementia” has many similarities to Alzheimer’s disease in humans. Read more

The 2010 J D Stewart Lecture "Immunology and Veterinary Adventures on a Mouse Ranch" will be presented by Professor Christopher Goodnow BVSc BSc(Vet) PhD FAA FRSC. Professor Goodnow has illuminated the mechanism of immunological self-tolerance through innovative integration of mouse molecular genetics with cellular immunology. His discoveries have changed our concepts of how self-tolerance is acquired and autoimmune diseases are prevented, or how the immune system ensures we all "know thyself" Read more
